The story did develop into a very good way to open up the subject of divorce for children. I personally felt it was too young for the children I had hoped to gift it too. Their ages are nine and eleven. I also thought there was too much magic and hocus pocus to the story (looking into bath bubbles who acted as crystal balls to reveal the future, etc.) I thought it could have been more enjoyable, realistic and resulted in more honesty making the sincere connection over a deeplife change without that "magic reading the future aspect", however it did succeed in at last getting to an opening for a heart to heart talk between the parent (or caregiver) and child. The book has nice illustrations and an excellent final page of questions the child may have.

I'm neither a professional psychologist nor a specialist in divorce; but, having been divorced myself with two young children, I can say that I dearly wish this book had been published five years ago when we needed it. There is simply no other book like it available; and, with its beautiful picture and kind, welcoming story, all young children will open up to reading it with their parents. And, once they start reading, the issues and topics it evokes will allow children and parents to discuss the things that are upsetting to children during divorce.

The background story was not based on reality (bunnies traveling sliding on rainbows and other random magical things happening) which was disorienting and confusing at times, however I thought the way the topic of divorce was addressed was good. Overall I felt the story was not what I was hoping for.

Story is tooo long and wordy.. tried reading it to my children after our divorce conversation it was a disaster.. it won’t hold the attention of kids under 8

This is a very emotional and challenging topic and the author has successfully managed to deal with it using compassion, her stellar clinical psychological skills, and especially her heart.This beautifully illustrated picture book is narrated through the eyes of Zoey Bunny, an adorable little furry character, whose emotions are on a rollercoaster ride at the very thought of her parents getting a divorce.She sifts through questions like: Is it my fault? Why do I feel so sad angry and broken? Why are Mama and Daddy doing this? What will happen to me? and Is divorce forever?... just to name a few. Both her parents are there to answer these tough questions for their beloved daughter in terms that she can understand soothing her confused, worried mind and heart and easing that ever present sick feeling in her tummy.The book is a wonderful resource for any adult who is involved with a child going through such a traumatic experience in her life. The author has included a very helpful guide for the grown-ups as the book is introduced, and 20 questions at the back of the book for both adult and child to discuss together.This book is is highly recommended and would be a perfect resource for any therapist, parent, teacher, and all others working to aid children through this very difficult period in their lives.

First experience reading Steven Suttie, and much enjoyed the experience. The characters are quite believable and well-developed, and they are nearly universally likable. The plot device is fresh, possibly unique - low income housing residents moved into higher-income residential area, and conflicts that ensue.Enjoying the plucky nature of the principal characters, the reader is caught trying to apply the brakes to the oncoming freight train that looms down the track. One off-putting side note - Suttie for some reason found it necessary to give a bit too much away with one sentence forewarnings at or near the end of some chapters. Those foreshadows are too blunt and not really needed to anticipate plot developmentThe seemingly radical character shift at the book end was disappointing for readers hoping for a rosy sunset and happy ending, but c'est la vie.Good read, good characters, and well crafted.

Book one left us with a police officer who had principles and care for his community. He did his level best to "do right" by all involved. He used his brains and cunning to achieve this. Book 2 gives us a DCI Miller who goes after the case in the laziest way possible. He allows himself to be outsmarted by idiots. Then to compound this, he helps the machine which is supposed to be Justice drive over and crush Innocents.Very dissapointed to see a hero for justice fall so horrifically without any reason given for the change. What could have been a great story destroyed by lazy policing and a cop out of an ending!

This book was very intriguing. I couldn't stop reading it I just had to know the ending. The police procedure was good. The caricatures were all very believable. I was shocked at the ending, really didn't expect that. If you looking for something completely different this book is for you

Wow, what a great read. An amazing storyline. A great first half followed by a compelling second. More twists and turns than a don't know what! Great characters and great police work by DCI Miller.

What happens when Social Services places indigent families In a posh in Manchester, UK, chaos follows, but not in the way you would think.This a fun read, even though the end is not wonderful.

This is book 2 of this DCI Miller series and I loved it, can't wait for more from this author.

Vanessa is distracted by gorgeous senior Zep, already cast as Prince Ivan, who seems to have eyes for her even though he is involved with senior queen-bee Anna. It seems a foregone conclusion that newcomer Vanessa will be his Firebird, despite her freshman status, but she remains unsettled by bizarre happenings, like dorm-friend Elly suddenly and untraceably leaving school. The strange basement practice room at adjacent Lincoln Center with burn marks on the floor and white outlines of dancers surrounded by ash on the walls creeps Vanessa out. Cryptic warnings from Justin, the third side of a love triangle, about the dangers of the school accompany plot developments that spin things from improbable to impossible. And she was a girl who put her feelings for her sister above all else.As this is the first book in a series, more of the backstory is likely to be included in the subsequent books in the series along with further development of those characters that remain. And while the story doesn't end on a cliffhanger, there are a number of questions left unanswered and loose ends to be tied up in future books.DANCE OF SHADOWS offers readers a wonderful distraction from reality as the story brings them into this dark and deadly world of dance and its malevolent power.

I fell for the cover and for the synopsis of Dance of Shadows and I really, really, really wanted it to be as amazing as its packaging indicated it would be, but alas, no such luck.First of all, let's take a minute to realise the main character's, Vanessa, love interest's name is Zeppelin. Keep in mind he's a dark-haired hunk with swelling biceps, not a Hindenburg-like airship. That is dumb. People do not name other people after airships. Second, their relationship doesn't feel natural or believable, it feels like something is deeply wrong with it. Sometimes Vanessa and Zep would have fights and on the next day were back to grinding against each other like mad dogs, as if nothing had happened at all. Before even talking to each other, he left her creepy notes telling her she "shined in every way", and Vanessa would almost tear her hair out whenever Zeppelin was with his girlfriend. That when she wasn't busy planning all her dates with a guy she saw once. What?There's also how Vanessa refuses to listen to Justin (blonde-haired hunk with swelling biceps, also not an airship) every single time he tries to warn her about something. It's basically as if someone you knew kept telling you "Hey, can we talk? I really have some important information that might help save your sorry butt", and you just did the whole dismissive wave thing at him and went "Nah, that can wait."The writing was fair to middling, some nice metaphors and pretty descriptions filling in here and there, but sometimes scenes would make absolutely no sense. In one scene, Vanessa is sitting while everyone gets up to leave, as she should, as well. Her friend is beside her, but she's momentarily distracted by something. When Vanessa turns back, everyone is gone. It wasn't like she was entranced for dozens of seconds as people queued out of the room. Vanessa was distracted for one measly second and suddenly everyone's disappeared. Again, what?I also felt like the reveal could have been worked at a little better. I get what Yelena Black was trying to do, but it felt rather rushed and honestly, not scary at all. In the end, I guess i just expected way more. I probably won't pick up the sequel, and Dance of Shadows wasn't nearly shadowy enough for me.

I have not got to this one yet but I love this series written by a Catholic theologian between 1949 and 1962.

Frederick Copleston's "A History of Philosophy' is a fairly detailed but quite readable and reasonably lively overview of the history of philosophy from the pre-Socratics until the mid-twentieth century. It is a classic in the field. Part 1 of Volume 3 covers a period starting with the late middle ages and continuing into early modern times that is often overlooked, with the exception of William of Ockham, to whom Copleston devotes six chapters. However, in addition to him Copleston discusses philosophers such as Marsillus of Padua and the Sepculative Mystics. One cannot read this volume without being convinced that this period was anything but a parenthesis in the history of Western thought. Instead, it provided a crucial bridge between medieval scholasticism and the advent of modern philosophy.

The information was interesting and very understandable, especially for someone like myself who doesn't know very much about Islam. It did a great job at teaching information as well as showing a different point of view. Though it was a little dry at parts, the book put a lot of information into a small amount of space.

Somewhat biased but, overall, a well done book on the topic.

Kecia Ali provides an amazingly clear and lucid writing on this very difficult and complex topic.She has a knack for being able to connect the past with the present as it relates to medieval muslim thinking about gender, sex, marriage, divorce, slavery, intimacy and a whole basket of related topics with the ethics related to them.Ms. Ali's other detailed and wonderfully intricate book titled Marriage and Slavery in Early Islam coupled with this book is a perfect introduction to Muslims and non-Muslims alike who want to understand the "structure" and "objectives" of these institutions as they took form and evolved in the minds of the pre-modern/medieval Muslim scholars.Her discussion on this topic is timely and the relevance to today's Muslim scholars, thinkers and policy makers is absolute and is elaborated in a very clear and comprehensive fashion.

This book is amazing! It's hard to say too much about it. The authors clarity and style are so great, she trusts the reader and brings out the moral/legal ambiguities and she lays things out so the reader can draw their own conclusion. Reading this book is like looking at life through a new lens, so much food for thought I marked it up and forced all of my friends tor read it. Those that don't are subjected to a summary of the main arguments anyways. I can't say enough about it!

This is an important contribution to an unknown field in the English speaking world. Most westerners have a negative restrictive view of not only Islam but especially perceive it as sexist and putting its female adherents in a very limiting position (and the pun is somewhat intended).This book will open up for those who wish to understand an approach very different from western norms. It was not a position which this reviewer necessarily was comfortable with but one which explains, and yes this book even critiques, that world which has been closed to us. Our previous exposure was to the 1001 Arabian Nights which like the Kama Sutra is outside the day to day lives of its followers while perhaps titalating for western readers.This is a major contribution to the dialogue which must emerge between our society and Islam.
